Feels very adjacent to Dunning-Kruger (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect) and have had cases where folks who are new to a subject area never advance beyond the Handholding Honeymoon and learn enough to get into the Desert of Despair (http://robertorocha.info/how-to-survive-the-desert-of-despair-in-your-code-learning-journey/)

Thanks for the thoughts! How nice it would be if we never needed to leave Mount Stupid :)

Love the Dunning-Kruger effect and have talked about it a lot with folks as they grow or try something new. Gerald Weinberg also has a nice story on his growth while playing pinball that I've outlined here: https://hartleyshandbook.com/p/growth-is-not-linear-3e5eb14b1c2c
